“Hast du mich vermisst?” – it was with this confident question (“Have you missed me?”) that ASP began their career back in the year 2000. Their debut album now appears as a vinyl picture disc. Since then, lots has happened in the world of ASP. Many stories have been told, we have travelled together over the course of many years, visited the dark tower, soared through the air as ravens, languished in dungeons, hung from the cliffs, stayed in the Horror Hotel, plunged into the deep sea and have been washed up on shore. And all this began with the question which, after two decades, seems more relevant than ever: “Have you missed me?” Because more urgently than ever before, today’s musical landscape needs a musical storyteller who succeeds in creating more than just background noise, and who creates a sonic refuge for all who seek more than superficiality and feelgood-tootling.

But even though the band’s style has developed and their thematic and visual worlds have become ever broader, every beginning has an inner charm, and even today, more than two decades later, songs such as ‘Schwarzer Schmetterling’ and ‘Und wir tanzten (Ungeschickte Liebesbriefe)’ deserve to be on just about any setlist. At concerts, the audience and musicians alike lose themselves in the emotionality and meaningfulness of these songs. Other hits too, such as ‘Sing Child’ or ‘Where Do the Gods Go?’ are still extraordinarily popular after all these years, due to among other things their downright danceability. This proves the cult nature of this debut work and first chapter of the ‘Schmetterling’ cycle.
