HOFFEN (German for „Hope“) is one of the numerous Darkwave projects that Young & Cold has discovered in Mexico... an agile scene has developed there, probably not at least through numerous live shows by US- and European acts, and became really creative for some years. After two albums in 2018 and 2019, HOFFEN was close to becoming known to a wider audience, but then Covid19 came and there was no chance of presenting the music live to achieve wider success. After the forced break, Dali Lantzeta released new music with HOFFEN digitally and on CD in Mexico in November 2023, which will now finally be made available to European fans on Vinyl on this new album!

The sound is deeply rooted in the New Wave of the 80s and the Darkwave of the 90s and com- bines Guitar-Wave with electronic elements and dark, melancholic Vocals, which are very unique because it is sometimes slightly “off” into a quite catchy mix. There was no fuss in the production, so that the songs come across as pleasantly calm and introverted but indelibly creep into your ears.

With “I was a Lie” the album starts with an extremely catchy tune, “La Noche de la Tempestad” is the soundtrack to the next grayish autumn days, just like “Time”. “I could never stop for Death” and “Si la Vida nos apaga” could also fill the dance floors of some parties with the right Remixer.

HOFFEN once again joins the ranks of bands like Frozen Autumn and of course Clan Of Xymox , and good old The Cure often shine through, especially in the melodies. So „Proteos:…” is a well- rounded affair that, with some live support - the band performs as a four-piece on stage - will quickly build up a proper fanbase.
